Bulgaria is a small country located in south-eastern Europe and is blessed with magnificent nature. Bulgaria is just one hundredth of the size of Europe, but the wealth of living organisms located here puts the country at one of the first places in the biodiversity on the continent.
Forests cover one-third of the total area of the country where grows large number of wild herbs. Bulgaria is the largest exporter of medicinal plants in Europe and among the first in the world.
Together with the fact that 75% of the country territory is suitable for organic farming makes Bulgaria one of the best place for manufacturing of high quality honey.
Honey is a traditional product for Bulgaria. The country ranks highly prestigious third place in Europe in the production of honey, which is valued for its high health benefits.
Honey is one of the most popular Bulgarian export product and is very popular on the European’s markets. Bulgarian beekeepers exporting 8,000 tons of honey a year and the highest percentage of this traditional Bulgarian product going to Germany, Italy, France and Spain.
The reason for this is that in Bulgaria bee farms are located in ecologically clean places and the honey is produced with very high quality.
Bulgaria is producing over 1200 tons of organic honey per year.
Bulgarian Honey is produced by Agroarena Ltd - which was founded on First of April 2006 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in order of production and trade with organic bee products.
Since the same beginning of establishing our apiaries in May 2006 the company signed a contract for inspection and certification for organic beekeeping with Balkan Biocert – the first national Inspection and Certification body. After one year of successful conversion from conventionally to organic beekeeping in 2007 the company is certified for the production and trade with organic bee products with certificate № 260 in accordance with European Regulation 2092/91 and Bulgarian Regulation 35/2001.
The company has three organic apiaries with the total number of 850 bee families located in the northwestern part of Bulgaria, in the region of Balkan Mountain, Mezdra Municipality. Two of the apiaries are located in Tipchenitsa village and one in Oslen Krivodol village. The apiaries are located in a hilly area with deciduous forests at an altitude between 240 and 850 meters. In the area it is not lead intensive agriculture, there is no technical and cereal crops such as sunflower, canola, corn and wheat and there is not developed industry. Through it do not go major roads and highways.
In the area there is an extremely biodiverse of wild plants. There are over 100 species of wild herbs from which bees collect nectar for their herbal honey. Besides herbs bees collect nectar and from two mass encountered wild tree species - Acacia and Linden. In our manufacturing process human intervention and its impact on the environment is minimized.
In our team employs 3 generations of beekeepers, which is trying to revive, preserve and pass on the traditional methods of honey production and bee products.
All our bees colonies are grown organically, without the use of drugs and other substances that may fall into the honey and reduce or damage its health benefits.
